Tasmanian government school are almost fully funded
The Tasmanian Association of State School Organisations (TASSO) has responded to today’s announcement of the funding bilateral agreement to improve desperately needed per-student funding in Tasmanian government schools.
John Allan, TASSO President said “It’s excellent news that the increase of funding is coming sooner, as we’ve been calling for. But it’s still not quite 100% or ‘fully funded’.”
“While the federal and state government agree to include a 4% depreciation or travel clause in the bilateral agreement to fund government education, our schools are in fact not fully funded”.
“Fully funded is 100% Schooling Resource Standard (SRS), not 100% minus a 4% accounting loophole” Mr Allan said, “A truer statement is Tasmanian government school are almost fully funded”.
“A fairer statement might be ‘government school students will be better funded than before, but will still remain in an underfunded education system for another decade’” concluded Mr Allan.
